Trojans are the firsts on the lists
A pop-up serving trojan which sidesteps virus protection software has topped the list of malware threats to the world’s computers.
Trojan.Clicker.CM was highlighted by IT security firm BitDefender as the leading threat to systems in May, with eight out the top ten malwares being trojans.
In second place was Trojan.Downloader.WMA.Wimad.N which downloads another application that steals data, while Trojan.Qhost.AQR works to prevent antivirus software from updating.
Commenting on the threats, BitDefender’s Sorin Dudea said: “This just goes to show that it doesn’t pay off to turn off your protection - not even for a little while.”
The firm also draws attention to the malware in tenth place, which corrupts the way Windows manages cursor and icon files.
BitDefender produces antivirus software which protects systems from viruses, spyware and other malware and also reduces identity theft by preventing fishing attacks.
The firm issues hourly updates to its virus directory, to ensure that protection is kept as up-to-date as possible.
